Solar Eclipse: The Mythology and Vedic Astrology of Surya Grahan

The moment when the moon comes between the sun and the earth and engulfs the daylight to spread darkness. This spectacular phenomenon is known as the Surya Grahan (Solar Eclipse). The moon is often unable to cover the sun completely and this results into different types of Surya Grahan depending upon the magnitude of the grahan and the shadow cast over the earth. TYPES OF SURYA GRAHAN: Partial Surya Grahan (Partial Solar Eclipse) It occurs when the moon only casts its penumbra over the earth by partially covering the sun. Total Surya Grahan (Total Solar Eclipse) It occurs when the entire central region of the sun is completely blocked out by the moon and the umbra is cast in such a manner that one sees a total blackout. Annular Surya Grahan (Annular Solar Eclipse) The term annular can be defined as “of a ring.” In this type of Surya Grahan, the moon is so far away that the umbra is unable to reach the earth and therefore, the middle portion of the sun is cov...

Mount Kailash - The Unclimbed Peak

I was randomly watching YouTube videos and saw one about Mount Kailash, then I spend my whole day reading articles and YouTube videos about Mount Kailash. Anyone knowing about Hinduism knows about Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Mahesh/Shankar as The Generator, Operator and Destroyer , also known as GOD . Even though we mention the number of Indian Gods and Goddess as 33 Koti (which means types in Sanskrit and not Crores). Mount Kailash is the home to Lord Shiva as built and gifted by King Himalaya, his father in law, in Hindu Mythology. It’s said that Lord Shankar / Mahadev is residing in this shrine ever since with his beloved wife Goddess Parvati. The location of Mount Kailash is very remote from human civilization and yet is equally and significantly described in Hindu Mythology with accuracy. How this was possible with just an act of Fiction and imaginary myths. The lake described Mansarobar, the lake of life and its mirror lake, Mrit lake or Rakshas Jheel , th...

Birth Death and Rebirth in Vedas

The Hindu philosophy states that all people born on this earth are certain to die and equally certain is the fact that all the dead would be reborn. This concept is enunciated in 27th Sloka of the second chapter of Bhagavad Gita. Its believed that there is a soul (Atman) in every live being and that it goes through the cycle of birth-death-rebirth and ultimately merges with the universe (Brahman). The second chapter of Bhagavad Gita (Slokas 17, 20, 23, 24 and 25) states that the Atman cannot be hurt, burnt or destroyed. In Christianity, there is no antonym for “sin.” You can commit “sin,” but can you commit what is opposite of “sin.” Hindus believe that a person is capable of committing not only sin but also “punya or good karma” (“u” to be pronounced as in “put” – “put it down”). Karma, by the way, means “duty.” There is nothing good or bad about it, just as “duty” has neither bad nor good connotation to it. Why does the Atman (soul) go through the cycle? It is because of t...

The Total Number of Species or Life Forms on Planet Earth - Vedas

Modern biologists today can list and name around 1.3 million species of life forms on planet earth. But modern biologists also agree that this number is a significant underestimate of the actual total number of species on this planet, so millions of species and life forms are yet to be identified, named, listed and studied. Even today every year around 15,000 new species and life forms are discovered which keeps adding to the number of known species mentioned above. For centuries Taxonomists around the world have been trying to get an approximate definitive figure about the total number of species on Earth and to list them all. Now let us see what the ancient Hindu scriptures have to say about the total number of species on planet Earth. BHAGAVADGITA The ancient Hindu text Bhagavadgita which which is atleast 5000 years old and dates back to the times of Mahabharatha says in (2.22) that just as one gives up an old shirt to put on a new one, the soul gives up an old body to acquire...

How is Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism ) different from Other Religions

Open source religion: If Wikipedia is an encyclopedia then Hinduism is a religion .Here religious democracy is practiced religiously. It absorbs everything, there are regular moderation, revolutions, induction of local beliefs and deities . No one God but one God: It’s not a polytheistic religion where Ares will get angry if you pray Hercules. Hanuman will be as happy as Ganesha whether you worship him or not. But every Hindu tries to stick to a God that suits him, so in the end its one God. No one prophet but hundreds: We have seven Rishis, after them hundreds of other Revolutionary saints and philosophers. Each one of them belong to a school of thought and everyone has a following. No single philosophy or version of reality: Dvaita, advaita, samkhya, yoga, nyaya, vaisheshika, vishista-advaita, bauddha, jain and sikh. Choose whichever pleases you . No single book to follow: Follow bhagavad gita or ashtavakra gita, follow veda or just vedanta. Follow samkhya karika or brihadar...

History of Shiv

In the Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is the Destroyer and the most important one in the Holy Trinity, the other two being Brahma the Creator and Vishnu the Protector. Lord Shiva has always fascinated his followers by his unique appearance: he has not two but three eyes, has ash smeared all over his body, has snakes coiled up around his head and arms, wears tiger and elephant skin, leads a wild life in the cremation grounds far removed from social pretenses, and is known for his proverbial anger. There is a very interesting story behind the birth of Lord Shiva. One day, Brahma and Vishnu were both arguing about which of them was more powerful and important. Right then amidst the heated discussion, an inexplicable blazing pillar appeared in front of them, whose root and tip were not to be seen. The roots seemed to penetrate deep into the earth with the tip piercing into the skies beyond eternity. Amazed by the view of this pillar, now both of them wondered which could be this third e...
